As a blogger we would have understood that social media and social networking is a great tool to drive traffic to your blog. There are counters and buttons that you include in your blog posts like the twit this button, tweetmeme button, digg counter, stumbleupon buttons, reddit counter, etc.

On your right on this blog post you will see a box that has four major traffic drivers’ buttons and they are

Tweetmeme button – This is a button that helps to retweet your blog post on twitter. This has proven to be a viral method considering there are over 25 million twitter users. This button helps you submit your blog post to twitter and the same will be retweeted by your followers on twitter.

Stumbleupon ButtonStumbleUpon is an internet community that allows users to discover and rate websites, articles, images and videos. This button too helps simplify the process of submitting your blog post to StumbleUpon.

All the buttons except StumbleUpon’s are counters too, which means that you can have a count of the number of times your blog post or article is Dugg, Retweeted, Reddit submitted.

Twitter is undoubtedly the best in terms of traffic driving capabilities. Social bookmarking also is a great driver of traffic. There are three major social bookmarking sites that take the cake and they are Digg, Reddit and Stumbleupon. This is not to underestimate the other websites, but this is a fact that isn’t contested.

This sort of a counter is absolutely necessary considering that you want traffic to your blog and you want your blog post to go viral. These counters or buttons helps the visitors do just that, increase traffic.

To add these buttons to your blog posts you need to follow these two steps.

Step 1

Add the below CSS to your Stylesheet page, it will be name style.css. Once you open the stylesheet go to the end of the sheet and paste the below code as is.

<style type=”text/css”>
#Share {
margin: 1px;
padding: 2px;
float: right;
}
#Share #tweetmeme {
margin: 1px;
padding: 2px;
float: left;
}
#Share #Reddit {
margin: 1px;
padding: 2px;
float: left;
}
#Share #Stumbleupon {
margin: 1px;
padding: 6px;
margin-left: 4px;
}

Once pasted update file and close.

Step 2

The previous code was to define how these buttons will appear. This is the step where you will add your button and counters to your blog post.

First go to your theme editor page and open your Single Post page which will be named single.php. Once on that page scroll down the position in that page where it says “<div class=”text”>“. Paste the code below as is just after the <div class=”text”>.

<div style=”border:none ;float:right;width:20%;margin:6px;padding:6px;”>
<div id=”Share”><script type=”text/javascript”>tweetmeme_source = ‘unoblogger';</script>
<div id=”tweetmeme”>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script></div>
<div id=”Digg”><script src=”http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js” type=”text/javascript”></script></div>
<div id=”Reddit”><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.reddit.com/button.js?t=2″></script></div>
<div id=”Stumbleupon”><a href=”http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=<?php the_permalink() ?>&amp;title=<?php the_title(); ?>”> <img border=0 src=”http://cdn.stumble-upon.com/images/32x32_su_solid.gif” alt=””></a></div>
</div></div>

Once this code is pasted update file and close.

Go to your blog and check a single post, the counter should be active as it appears here on this blog post.

There is just one request that I have for my fellow bloggers, Please share this with bloggers you know for them to benefit with this counter too.
