The Great Indian Rupee (INR)

The Indian Rupee up until some point of time was addressed as INR without any prominent symbol. Although the paisa has been in existence for a long time, now is when India has decided to give a symbol to the currency. Yes, the Rupee symbol was launched on 8th July 2011 but till recently it never mattered much until I wanted to use the same on one of the website projects.

I was to include the rupee symbol to html pages and was at a loss trying to figure how this could be done. After some research came across some information which would allow all Rs. to the rupee symbol.

In this article are the two ways to implement the Rupee symbol to the WordPress blog. The simplest and the appropriate one would be to use the CSS method, since we have limited use to the rupee symbol. Using the javascript will call for external page on all the WordPress pages.

Javascript Method to Add Rs. Rupee Font Symbol

This the best automated method. Simply cut and paste the javascript code below to your website footer file and it will convert ALL Rs symbols to Rs. Rupee font symbols on all your blog posts.

<script src="" type="text/javascript"></script>

The script has to be added in your header.php before the </head> portion.

CSS Method to Add Rs. Rupee Font Symbol

If javascript is not your style, then simply cut and paste the stylesheet code below to your website <head> area and it will convert all Rs symbols to Rupee font symbols wherever the span tags are found around the Rs text

Add this CSS stylesheet

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="">

Wherever you want to convert the Rs. –  add the span tags and use the Webrupee class to call the CSS.

Now, use the rupee symbol whereever you please on your WordPress website.
