This morning I came across this article on Times of India, this is a news that was titled “Bloggers can be nailed for views“. Being curious I went ahead to read the news article and it is about a 19 year old who started a community on orkut against a nationalist political party in India. On that community there were anonymous expressions that alleged that the party was trying to divide the country on region and caste basis.

Reacting to this the state secretary of that party lodged a criminal complaint that the community was hurting public sentiments. Now the person who started the community is to face trial in court.

Post this I checked the internet to find out this. There were many articles on criminal proceedings initiated on bloggers like this case where a blogger has been jailed in Egypt for expressing criticism against the country’s president and the religion. You can read the article here in www.guardian.co.uk

Also, this article on BBC News which mentions about the report which states that “More bloggers than ever face arrest for exposing human rights abuses or criticising governments”

These news are quite alarming and as bloggers we are to be blamed for this as well. This is a situation that can sure be avoided, provided we follow certain codes. There is a code of conduct that has been framed for bloggers to avoid these situations. If we are to follow the codes judiciously, there would be no issues where the bloggers are facing criminal porceedings against them. You can find the code here - Bloggers Code of Conduct

Also if the bloggers follow certain blogging code of ethics as mentioned in this post “Bloggers code of ethics

Let us ensure that as bloggers we would not indulge into activities that would cause harm to ourselves and the people around us.
